Dear Ms. Ogleby,

My VR headset stopped functioning last night, and I was unable to complete my assignment. As you can see, it was not my fault that I can’t turn in my homework. I think you should give me an extension until Thursday.

Thanks,

Ryan Walker

Dear Ryan,

It is too bad that you were having trouble with your headset. As you know, in case of a VR malfunction, students can access the class set in the school library. You may have an extension until Wednesday, but please try to not wait until the last minute to complete your assignments.

Sincerely,

Ms. Ogleby

Dear Ms. Ogleby,

Thank you for the extension. I’ll be sure to cast my project through to you before the Friday field trip to the museum.

I do have a question though. Can Marco and Elias be in my group when we do our live modeling?

Also, my web cast needs one interview, right?

Hi Ryan,

Yes, you will choose your own groups at the museum for your live modeling project. Please keep in mind that you will be programming the object scanner and 3D printer yourselves and therefore will need to be very focused while you’re there. Perhaps you three can research which artifact you’d like to model beforehand, so when you get there you can focus on your programming. Also, I know that Marco is in robotics club, but I’d really like all three of you to take turns coding the bot.

Please recall your instructions for the webcast assignment:

Global Climate Webcast – 60 points

For this assignment, you will be exploring different regions around the world and how changing climates have impacted the daily lives of the people who live there. You will use the National Climate Museum’s online site directory to find two different regions of the world. You will research these regions using the World Climate Museum’s website, and your VR headset tuned to the google worldview. Then, you will set up an interview with two individuals from these places, from our partner schools. You may interview students, teachers, or approved community members.

For your interview, focus on:

  • How the climate of the region has changed
  • What environmental impacts this change has caused
  • How people in the area have adapted to the change

Remember, your research and interviews should be compiled into a recorded webcast to summarize what you find. You should use your student cloud to compile and upload the video and audio pieces. Once complete, your cast will be watched by your class, so please take care to format and sync carefully.

Sincerely,

Ms. Ogleby

Man how come you always log on to school so early? Some of us like our stretch schedule. Some of us like to SLEEP.

I’m cool with whatever. Those totem poles are cool though.

Seriously dude. You are the only kid I know who is willingly up before 10.

Naw let’s not do the totem poles. Do you know how much coding we would have to do to program that huge thing into the scanner? Let’s do something smaller. Like maybe that goblet thing?

Whatever guys, SOME of us have stuff to do after school and can’t spend all night logged in like you fools.

Yeah, the goblet sounds good. Let’s link up our VR sets and give it a look over so we’re ready for Friday. I’ll pull up the digital catalog from the museum and send you the link. Meet you guys online in 10?

8:15am to Class

from Ms. Ogleby

Good morning class,

Tomorrow is our big field trip to the natural history museum! Everyone should have selected a group and an artifact to work with while we are there. While we are able to get considerable information about the artifacts via the museum virtual catalog and expert webcasts, there is no substitute for seeing a piece of history in person. I expect everyone to be on their best behavior.

We will convene at the museum at 1pm to begin our explorations. Please plan to have eaten lunch before then.

Best,

Ms. Ogleby

Ms. Ogleby,

That field trip was THE COOLEST! Do we get to keep our artifact models after you grade them?

from Ms. Ogleby

Dear Class,

I had some questions regarding the artifact models that I want to clear up – Yes, you will get to keep your model once grading is complete, however, the museum would like to display a few of them in their tinker lab to showcase school partnerships. If you’d be willing to lend your model to the museum for a few weeks, please let me know.

Ms. Ogleby

PS: Thank you all for being on such great behavior. You made your teacher proud! Have a good weekend :)

Ughhhh have you guys started working on climate project yet? There are too many areas to choose from. I give up. SOS send help I’m done for…

Calm down. Just go to the National Climate Museum’s global page, do an advanced search, controlling for temperature flux, water level rise, and fauna change to identify regions most affected. That way you’ll be able to show the shifts with an animated geographic change map. Ms. Ogleby loves interactive data, so do that and you’re golden.

from Ms. Ogleby

Hi Class,

Please remember that the school media lab will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for those of you still completing your Climate webcasts.

Also, Mr. Douglas wanted me to tell you about a club that one of his students has started. If you are interested in joining, meetings will be held in the school tech pod on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 5pm.

Do you like to code? Do you like helping people? Do you like having fun and meeting AMAZING people? Then join the

**SOCIAL CODERS MOVEMENT**

Social Coders Movement is a club where we find problems with technology and then use programming to solve them.

If you want to join, contact Alyssa Brown or Jazmin Sanchez or just show up Mondays and Wednesdays in the tech center from 3 to 5.

***#Programmer Pride***

That is all. Please let me know if you have any questions or problems with your projects.

Hello Everyone,

I have reviewed all of your Global Climate webcasts and am quite impressed. Grades have been posted on your class drive. I am pleased to let you know that Principal Ferrera has decided to add your webcasts to the school library. They will now be available to any student who wants to learn about climate change around the world.
